Kickstarter Roadmap
We’ve completed our advanced prototype and molding is underway with our manufacturing partners. Our web portal is in ongoing active development. The AI recognition model continues to improve with more training. We're making continual adjustments to the software and doing an enormous amount of testing. All of the electronic components and PCBs are final and we are working towards getting our final production boards from manufacturers.
Some back story for those new to CardMill
When we launched CardMill on Kickstarter in July of 2025, our first prototype was designed for small-batch 3D printing. Thanks to the overwhelming and surprising success of our Kickstarter campaign, over 5,000 units backed!, the project naturally evolved to meet production-scale needs. We’ve transitioned from 3D printing to full-scale injection molding, the industry standard for durable, consistent, and professional-grade hardware. This shift was a recommended and a necessary step in moving a complex high volume hardware product from prototype to production, ensuring every unit meets the quality and reliability backers expect. Because of this expanded process, delivery is now estimated at December 2026 - January 2027 because shifting to injection molding requires a lot more time. We will keep backers up to date with monthly updates on Kickstarter as we move through production.

How it all started
People ask me, "Why build the CardMill?" Simple…because nothing like it exists for the everyday trading card collector. As a longtime Magic: The Gathering player and trader, I’ve spent countless hours manually entering cards into online tools just to track my collection, organize trades, and build decks. The process is tedious, and existing high-end scanners are expensive. As a parent, husband, and tech professional, I needed a better solution - so I built one. What started as a DIY project with Raspberry Pi and Lego soon evolved into something bigger: an affordable, efficient way for collectors to inventory their cards without the hassle.
CardMill is designed for collectors who want to catalog their collections quickly, without damaging cards or breaking the bank. Imagine always knowing exactly what’s in your collection with no more digging through boxes or realizing too late that a card is in another deck. We’re not here to replace online tracking tools; we’re here to make them easier to use by streamlining the inventory process. And so, CardMill was born. CardMill has evolved from concept to working prototype in over 2 years and is ready to change how collectors organize their cards.

CardMill now supports Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Lorcana, Flesh and Blood, Star Wars Unlimited, One Piece, and Sorcery: Contested Realm. We’re continuing to work on other TCGs, and we'll then spread out to sports cards.

No! Unlike the competition that charges a per scan fee, or a recurring monthly fee to use the device, CardMill charges only one fee: the machine. Kickstarter backers will receive lifetime access to core scanning and sorting features, including core updates we release, with no recurring charges for each device you pledge for. Optional premium features may be introduced in the future that may introduce additional fees or subscriptions.

We've taken a lot of care to ensure the safety of cards processed through CardMill. We use a non-abrasive rubber to move the card from the hopper to the chamber. We use a non-abrasive rubber cam to move each card from the hopper to the scanning chamber.
After scanning, the card is gravity-fed into a discharge tray designed with curved bottoms to nudge the card gently into place. We are also exploring choosing a material that will help soften the landing in the tray.
* We are also developing a sensor in the card discharge funnel to detect if a card is stuck and it will automatically stop the processing if it detects a stuck card.We've fine-tuned the mechanics to ensure cards have minimal touch and move safely and smoothly at every step.Our goal from day 1 of CardMill has always been the protection of cards. And with a lot of tweaking, we've been able to achieve this.

International backers will be responsible for applicable VAT/GST, import duties or taxes, customs fees, and international shipping costs.

The CardMill can house a 400 or 800 card removable hopper. Enough for an entire box of your favorite trading card game.

Yes. The CardMill will need a constant internet connection, either via WiFi or a direct ethernet connection, to process your inventory.

CardMill can handle perfect-fit sleeves, but not regular sleeves at this time.

CardMill has three modes: Scan Only, Sort Only, Scan and Sort
The scan-only mode will add your card to inventory, but not sort it. Sort-only mode will physically sort, but not add to your inventory. Scan and Sort will do both.
Supported sorting methods (one at a time):
- Alphabetical up to the 3rd letter
- By set
- By card color
- By card type
- By rarity
- By price (up to 5 tiers)
- Targeted search - this will allow you to set parameters on the portal and be notified when a card triggers one of the filters.And we’re building in room for even more customization in the future.

The original prototype took about 1 hour to autonomously process 300 cards. We refined the tray movement system and are continually optimizing and expect to cut that time in half, with an estimated speed of around 800 cards per hour depending on the chosen parameters of your sort.

Yes! After scanning, you can view, filter, and export your collection as a CSV file. This makes it easy to import into platforms like TCGPlayer, Moxfield, Deckbox, Archidekt, and others.
